Shane Warne Legacy Lives On at Melbourne Cricket Ground Exhibition
The Melbourne Cricket Ground will honor Australian cricket legend Shane Warne with an unprecedented exhibition showcasing his most treasured career memorabilia, officials announced this week.
WARNE: Treasures of a Legend opens December 16 at the Australian Sports Museum, featuring 48 personal items that chronicle the spin bowling maestro’s extraordinary career. Cricket enthusiasts and sports fans will get a rare opportunity to witness artifacts that defined one of cricket’s greatest careers.
Historic Cricket Memorabilia on Display at MCG
The exhibition features the famous Gatting Ball, his 1999 Cricket World Cup winners medal, and the ball from his 700th Test wicket. Fans can also view worn Test match shirts, boots, and the iconic floppy white hat that became synonymous with Warne’s on-field presence.
Keith Warne, Shane’s father, spoke emotionally about the family’s decision to share these cricket treasures with the public. “We are delighted that the MCC Foundation has acquired Shane’s collection and that it will be exhibited in the Australian Sports Museum at his beloved MCG,” he stated at the announcement. “Shane loved the ‘G. It was his cricket playground.”
The family patriarch emphasized his son’s deep connection to the venue. “He loved playing here and always enjoyed the crowd interaction,” Keith Warne added, noting that preserving the collection for future cricket lovers made the decision easier.
Shane Warne Cricket Career Achievements Honored
Warne took 708 wickets in 145 Test appearances and scored more than 3,000 Test runs. His remarkable career statistics place him as the second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket history, behind only Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan.
Vegas11 News has learned that the exhibition will run through August 9, 2026, coinciding with major cricket events including the Boxing Day Test between Australia and England. The timing allows maximum exposure during Australia’s summer cricket season when thousands of international and domestic visitors flock to the MCG.
Melbourne Cricket Club CEO Stuart Fox described the exhibition as essential viewing. “This is a must-see exhibit for cricket and sporting fans alike,” Fox declared. “When you think of the ‘G, it’s hard not to think of Warnie”, he added, referencing the Shane Warne Stand that bears the legend’s name.

Ball of the Century and Cricket History Preserved
Among the exhibition’s highlights is memorabilia from what became known as cricket’s “Ball of the Century.” Warne bowled this legendary delivery from over-the-wicket, which pitched outside leg stump before spinning viciously to clip the off stump against Mike Gatting during his first Ashes delivery in 1993.
The leg-spinner’s influence extended beyond statistics. His loving nature and larger-than-life personality ensured his influence extended well beyond the cricket field. Warne revolutionized spin bowling and inspired countless young cricketers worldwide.
Fox emphasized the collection’s significance for Australian cricket heritage. “Acquiring this collection secures its enjoyment for generations of Australians to come,” the MCG executive explained, expressing gratitude to the Warne family.

The exhibition occupies the Australian Sports Museum’s temporary exhibition space at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Session times from December 16, 2025, to February 28, 2026, are on sale now, while tickets for March through August will be released later.
MCC members receive 20% off tickets to the Australian Sports Museum. While general admission covers the exhibition, session bookings are essential due to limited capacity. The museum showcases Warne alongside other Australian sporting greats, cementing his status in the nation’s athletic pantheon.
Keith Warne reflected on his son’s enduring impact: “To know Shane’s incredible career will be highlighted in the Australian Sports Museum, along with other Australian sporting greats, is something that our family will always be proud of.”
Cricket Legend Shane Warne Remembered at His Home Ground
Warne passed away in March 2022 at age 52, leaving an irreplaceable void in international cricket. He was posthumously appointed as an Officer of the Order of Australia for his service to cricket and elevated to Legend status in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
The MCG holds special significance in Warne’s legacy. A statue outside Gate 2 has become a popular meeting point and photo opportunity for fans. The Shane Warne Stand, the venue’s largest, towers over the ground where he delivered countless magical performances.
This exhibition represents more than nostalgia—it’s a comprehensive celebration of cricket excellence that shaped modern bowling. From his Test debut to his final professional match, every artifact tells a story of dedication, skill, and charisma.
Vegas11 News will continue covering this landmark cricket exhibition as it opens to the public in December.
