India vs Pakistan: No Handshake Sparks Tension
The Asia Cup 2025 Super Four began with more drama than just cricket. In the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan clash on September 21 in Dubai, the two captains walked out for the toss, but there was no handshake.
Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav chose not to extend his hand to Pakistan’s Salman Ali Agha, continuing what has now become a “no-handshake policy” between the arch-rivals.
This wasn’t a one-off. Earlier in the group stage on September 14, the Indian team had also avoided handshakes post-match, sparking debates on sportsmanship. Pakistan lodged a complaint with the match referee Andy Pycroft, but India stood firm, citing political tensions after the May 2025 military conflict.
The gesture, or the refusal of it, has become symbolic—fans on both sides are voicing strong opinions. “Cricket is about respect,” a Pakistani supporter said after the match, while an Indian fan shot back, “Respect is earned off the field too.”
Suryakumar Yadav: “This Is Not a Rivalry Anymore”
After the victory, Suryakumar addressed the constant hype surrounding India-Pakistan matches.
“I feel you should stop asking questions on rivalry,” he told reporters. “If two teams play 15-20 matches and it is 7-7 or 8-7, then it is called a rivalry. But 13-0, 10-1… whatever the stat is, this is not a rivalry anymore.”
His remark drew mixed reactions. For some, it reflected India’s dominance; for others, it was seen as downplaying Pakistan’s challenge. Still, it showed how differently the players view the contest compared to the fans.
Asia Cup 2025 Super Four Schedule
Despite the off-field controversy, the cricket continues. Four teams have qualified for the Super Four: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. The format is round-robin, each team plays the others once, with the top two moving to the final on September 28 in Dubai.

The cricket has been fiery, but the bigger talking point remains the handshake snub. With emotions running high, fans wonder: Will the no-handshake policy continue all the way to the final?
