India’s Under-17 women’s team announced their championship intentions with a commanding 7-0 victory over Nepal in the SAFF U17 Women’s Championship 2025 opener at Changlimithang Stadium, Thimphu on Tuesday.

Nira Chanu Longjam opened the scoring in the 25th minute and completed her brace in the 56th minute, becoming the standout performer of the match. Abhista Basnett, Anushka Kumari, and Julan Nongmaithem also found the net in a dominant team display.

“We prepared for this moment for months, and seeing the ball hit the back of the net felt like all our dreams coming true,” said Longjam after the match.

Focus Remains on Tournament Success

The comprehensive victory gives India maximum points in the four-team tournament that includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal. Each team will play the others twice, with the highest points total determining the champion.
